Income Generation and Organic Home Gardens for Rural women

These training courses were conducted in all work areas of RWF.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Sales Outlets

· Sales outlets were organized for women’s and children’s products.
 
· A sales outlet is organized every year at the head office.
Collecting children’s garments, ladies’ garments, handcrafts, grains vegetables, fruits as well as other creative work of members in all work areas sales are conducted in all work areas to sell members’ produce.

From its inception the RWF has initiated organic home gardens in all work areas very successfully.

The RWF distributes seeds required for each work area, twice a year. Imparting the necessary practical and technical knowledge and Instructions on Organic Home Gardening.
 
· An officer knowledgeable on this subject visits each society to instruct on organic manure, organic fungicides and layout of the gardens.
 
· For further information in this regard members are referred to Research Institutes such as that at Gannoruwa.
 
· Leaflets and booklets on organic home gardening are distributed among members.
 
· The necessary instructions are given by visiting the sites on spread of fungi and other problems that crop up in home gardening.
 
· Workshops are conducted with the participation of Agricultural Officers to raise awareness.

Issuing credit for self employments

The RWF has granted loans for self employment projects of members. Apart from this credit has been issued through ECLOF.

Conducting Home Gardening Competitions to Motivate Women

Expectation to take forward the programme on empowerment of rural women through promotion of local products

    • It is expected to introduce a collective farming system among women and then promote the local products and organic farming. The non – cultivated farm lands in the remote areas are to be negotiated with the government. The women will be mobilized to do the negotiations with the government to get these lands for cultivation.
    • To promote agriculture among the children through home gardening programmes and mobilize the school children around these interests.
    • To introduce the locally produced machines’ for self employment projects and train women on these
