Reconstruction works following natural disasters.

 

Out of these Akurala and Galle area have been heavily affected. The following activities are being carried out for the upliftment of the people of Akurala.

 

· Construction of a Community Hall

· A Fisheries Project.

· Introduction of self employment projects

· Training a life saving group consisting of children

· Formation of a cultural troupe.

· Organic home gardens.

 

In the year 2005, with the aid of the Green Movement the fisher community was given Sewing machines/ bicycles for fish vendors/ fishing gear/ carpentry tools and minor implements.

 

Post tsunami reconstructions

The Rural Women’s Front participated voluntarily in a number of relief activities to help those who were affected by the Tsunami disaster, which occurred in December 2004.

 

Accordingly the RWF has selected the area from Hikkaduwa to Ambalanogoda as a new work area from year 2005.

Action was taken to obtain 3 houses that were given by a Korean Company to 3 members of the Hikkaduwa area.

 

In the wake of Tsunami tragedy RWF sent 45 volunteers to Hambantota to assist the victims and donated medicine, bed sheets, mats and sanitary towels to women.
